Car parking at Rockhampton Hospital - your say!

Closed 12 Jun 2015

Opened 12 May 2015

Overview

We acknowledge that Rockhampton Hospital has a significant issue with limited parking available on site and on the streets around the facility. We have medium and long term solutions, but they will rely on funding.

This consultation seeks your views on a range of options designed to reduce demand for on-site car parking spaces in the short term. It will take about five minutes.

There are about 420 car park spaces within the Rockhampton Hospital site boundary (another 20 are being developed at the new cancer centre):

  • 88 designated for visitors
  • 54 designated for general parking
  • 19 disabled spaces
  • 260 for staff (193) and fleet (27) and hospital related services (40)

There are also about 120 on-street car parking spaces immediately adjacent to the hospital boundary and another 50 spaces at the former Top Shop site.

A long term solution is construction of a multi-level car park, but this will cost tens-of-millions of dollars. At the moment the priority is to invest in the development of medical services such as a cardiac catheter laboratory and radiation cancer services. These services will save lives and provide a better quality of life.

While investing in more doctors, nurses and other frontline staff, performing more surgeries, developing new services and treating patients faster is our clear direction, we need to find ways to make better use of our limited parking,
